What is VoIP/Internet Voice?

VoIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer, over a data network like the Internet. VoIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the Internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a VoIP call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have.

Which ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) is best for me?

1-Port Box?
This box will work if you have an existing router attached to your DSL or cable modem. Check to see if there is an extra Ethernet port available on your DSL or cable modem, wireless router, or network router. If you do, this 1-port gateway is for you! (Some popular routers are Cisco, Linksys, and Netgear).

2-Port Box?
On the contrary, if you don't have an available Ethernet port on your DSL or cable modem or you don't have any type of additional router on your network, you probably need to use the 2-port box. It has a router built in.
